This ongoing project studies the impact and influence sports has in identity formation among tribal women and girls as well as how sporting endeavours lead to improved social and economic opportunities.
This book project, funded by Dr. Ramdayal Munda Tribal Research Institute under the aegis of Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MOTA) aims to study the effect of sports in shaping expression, identity, honour and economic security of tribal women and girls.
As part of the fieldwork interviews with officials of several sports associations, government officials, sports coaches and young women sportspersons from Jharkhand are being conducted. Case studies of prominent women sportspersons from across the state will also be conducted over the course of a few months. Some insights generated from the study which are beyond the scope of the book project have also been shared with the Government of Jharkhand towards the development of the new Sports Policy.
