Funded by the International Growth Center (IGC) at the London School of Economics and Political Science, PDAG worked closely with affiliates, Dr. Sayan Banerjee, Dr. Charles Hankla and Dr. Anjali Thomas based at the University of Virginia, Georgia State University and Georgia Technological University, respectively to conduct a two-tier multi-phase study with 2500 respondents to study the effects of factors like caste and communal violence and development promises on electoral prospects of female candidates.
The study was conducted across four districts of Bihar, namely, Gaya, Jamui, Madhubani and Supaul covering eight assembly constituencies. Nearly 100 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) were conducted with elected women representatives and other political functionaries along the spectrum of political representation. The study report and policy brief are published on the IGC Website and two papers are under publication in global peer-reviewed journals.
